Badruddin Ajmal is an Enemy of Assam: Himanta
GUWAHATI: Assam Finance Minister and BJP leader Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has called AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal an enemy of Assam. Speaking to a national media house Dr. Sarma said, “I am against Ajmal, there is no doubt about it. Ajmal may be Indian citizen but he is against my culture. In Assam, we hold Badruddin Ajmal as enemy of Assam.”
Dr. Sarma opined that the amendment of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 will safeguard the interests of the Assamese people and should be passed. He argued that if the bill is not passed Assam will lose 17 seats to the likes of Ajmal which would mean the end of Assam. These 17 seats have around 8-9 lakh people who are not in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and whose votes are critical.
“If you don't give citizenship to the minority population of Bangladesh, Pakistan you are penalising the victims of the partition. And if you send these 8 lakh people who will be the beneficiaries of this amendment, 17 assembly seats will go out from the indigenous people of Assam to the party like AIUDF. So this bill will protect 17 seats for the indigenous because these people do not constitute the majority in these seats but these people oppose the policies of Badruddin Ajmal and they support Assamese line of thinking. So if you remove these people the 17 seats will go to Badruddin Ajmal. Already they have 35 and with these 17 you almost lose Assam,” stated Dr. Sarma.
