Fervent fans of the Assamese music and film industry can never forget the significance of 8th September - the birthday of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The Padma Vibushan awardee had an uncanny love for his motherland and his numerous songs reflected this. With songs for every emotion and genre to which people could easily relate, the legend was the quintessential people’s artist and his birth and death anniversaries are always commemorated with various musical tributes, song competitions and the like.

Today however, probably for the first time ever, a tribute to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his birth anniversary, not in the form of an article or a song but in the form of a highly anticipated Assamese film, has been offered. Zubeen Garg’s Mission China was released on 8th September. When Zubeen Garg announced the release date of Mission China as 8th September, he had passionately said, “I have decided to dedicate this film to Bhupen Mama who has always been one of my biggest inspirations.” This indeed showed Zubeen Garg’s tremendous love for the great soul and that directly or indirectly made the dwellers of Assam exultant. One living legend of the soil has dedicated his biggest offering till date to the other immortal soul of the motherland. This act of Zubeen Garg made him the recipient of a lot of praise and applause from all the sections of the society.

Mission China has the potential to become a blockbuster. The teaser, trailer and music videos that were released gave a glimpse of the movie’s outstanding cinematography, thus arousing huge excitement among people. Zubeen Garg and his team have taken every step possible to ensure that nothing is left lacking in the promotion of this big budget film. The alluring posters, Mission China imprinted shirts, bike rallies and slogans like, “Douri Douri Jaam Mission China Saam” have simply taken the promotions to an unprecedented level.

8th September has embraced two things; firstly, one legend presented a unique gift to the other legend on his birth anniversary and secondly, this is the start of a brand new journey for the Assamese film industry - the path of which might be again constructed by the ‘Luit Kontho’ Zubeen Garg himself.
