1.73 lakhs litres of liquor, nearly Rs 13 cr in cash seized ahead of phase 3 polls in Assam
GUWAHATI: Approximately 1.73 lac litres of liquor worth around 1.5 cr, and nearly Rs 13 crore in cash have been seized across Assam until 21st April, two days before the state goes to the third phase of polling.
The seizure was made by the Election Commission (EC) officials from different parts of the state including the four constituencies where voting will take place.
Of the total liquor seized, approximately 37 lac litres valued at Rs 23 lac were from the four poll-bound constituencies of Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, and Gauhati.
A total of 9,577polling stations have been established across the four constituencies, where 38,308 polling personnel have been deployed for smooth conduct of election.
In addition, 200 coys of security personnel, 436 micro observers, 5 general observers, 4 expenditure observers, 3 police observers have been installed.
The EC has also deployed 125 flying squad team (FST), 112 static surveillance team (SST), 83 video surveillance team (VST) for smooth and fair polling.
For the third phase of polling, a total of 9,577 sets of EVMs and VVPATs will be used.
Altogether 147 all women polling stations are there across the four constituencies, with Gauhati (79) having the highest number.
There are 125 model polling stations in the phase three elections.
A total of 54 candidates are in fray for phase three polling, which has a total of 524 remote polling stations.
Furthermore, 74,77,062 electors have enrolled their names for the third phase of elections, of whom 38,15,335 male, 36,61,570 female and 157 belong to third gender category.
