GUWAHATI: The youths in Bordumsa of Tinsukia district in Assam on June 18 caught five police personnel red-handed while they were negotiating with a drug peddler.

A commando and 2nd Battalion cadres were also included in the ‘police gang’.

The police personnel were identified as Mridul Ahmed, Rajib Bora, Robert Narzery (commando), Kiran Sonar and Lila Gohain and were attached to Bordumsa Police Station, as per a report by Assam Tribune.

They were being interrogated by senior officials after the locals protested their act. The agitated public even demanded their arrest.

An activist of Moran student body alleged before the media that a drug peddler of Pengaree Mugongpather was held earlier. The peddler, who had suspected contraband in his possession, was handed over to these police personnel who were in civil dress.

The policemen took the peddler to a nearby reserve forest and demanded money and finalised a deal for Rs 30, 000 against his safe release.
