Bharat Bandh: Several Protestors Detained in Silchar
GUWAHATI: As many as 40 protesters were detained by the security forces in Silchar in the wake of the nationwide shutdown called by the trade unions on January 8.
The protesters resorted to picketing at various offices and commercial areas which led the security forces to detain the protestors.
Security force was toughened at district headquarters including the Silchar town and deputy commissioner’s office on Wednesday. The police are keeping a sharp eye towards any unannounced situation.
A few private schools in Guwahati as well as banks remained shut due to the Bharat bandh called by 10 central trade unions on January 8. Private educational institutions such as Sanskriti The Gurukul, Royal Global School, NPS, Maria's Public School and Don Bosco were closed.
Unions participating in the strike include AIUTUC, CITU, AITUC, HMS, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC, INTUC, and TUCC along with various independent federations and associations.
