Boat Accident at North Gauhati | Several Bodies yet to be recovered

GUWAHATI: The rescue operation for the boat capsize incident in the Brahmaputra, North Guwahati is still underway, and the rescue team is yet to find all the missing persons.

According to reports so far, several parts of the boat that met with the accident have been recovered under the water, at Sualkuchi area. A bag with several legal documents has also been recovered. It is suspected that the bag belonged to some lawyer or advocate.

State Transport Minister. Chandra Mohan Patowary has announced the suspension fo all ferry services in the river. The tragic incident that took place yesterday drew massive criticism from the public. It is to be noted that the Transport Ministry during the Namami Brahmaputra Festival held in 2017, announced 15 new vessels between Guwahati and North Guwahati.

But the promise was not being materialized till date. The minister, after the accident on Wednesday, has finally set a deadline and announced to introduce at least three new vessels within this month.

The District Administration has also released helpline numbers for information regarding the boat that capsized. The numbers are - 0361-2733052 (Kamrup Metro) and 0361-2684407 (Kamrup).
