Export Of All Varieties Of Onions Banned By Govt Amid Rising Prices
GUWAHATI: The export of all varieties of onions has been banned by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry with immediate effect in light of rising prices.
Based on reports, the price of onions touched as much as Rs. 80 per kilogram in many states across the country. But, Guwahatians are still paying lesser at Rs. 50-60 per kg.
“The heavy monsoon that damaged onion crops has caused a sudden spike in the prices. The situation is expected to remain the same for at least
a month,” commodity expert Sunil Tambe told G-Plus over phone from Mumbai, speaking on the sharp increase in prices for the vegetable.
