Investigation still on about body of 11-year-old girl recovered from Brahmaputra River
GUWAHATI: The body of an 11-year-old girl was found in the Brahmaputra river in Kharguli on Thursday, April 18.
The police found out about the incident when the body was spotted by a fisherman and the local people informed authorities of the Latasil Police Station about it. The police retrieved the body with the help of sniffer dogs and sent it for post-mortem.
Three young boys were present with the girl when the incident took place. According to the minors, they had gone to the riverside during the day to enjoy their free time by taking a bath in the river but the girl accidentally drowned.
“We have recorded the statement of the three minor boys and will produce them before juvenile justice board after getting the post-mortem report,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Panbazar), PaharyKonwar.
The Latasil police arrested one suspect Madan Kumar on April 19th, 2019 for misleading the police. Kumar was presented before the court on April 20th, 2019 and was sentenced two days in judicial custody.
Further investigation is on. However, no prime suspect has been arrested so far in the case, the police said.
