Man from Guwahati reunited with family after attempted suicide over Howrah Bridge
GUWAHATI: A man from Guwahati, Hemant Gogoi, 31 who scaled the ‘anti-suicide wall’ of the Howrah bridge last week has been reunited with his mother and a few other relatives after he tried to commit suicide. The family was reunited at the Calcutta Pavlov Hospital on Friday, January 11.
Doctors at the hospital will keep Gogoi under observation and a medical board will check up on him on January 12 and then decide if he can be sent back to his home in Guwahati.
The man, who was unable to converse with anyone during his treatment was happy to finally talk to his mother in his mother-tongue. The doctors found that Gogoi had been suffering from delusion as he had been on anti-psycotic drugs as part of treatment. Gogoi said that all his belongings were missing when he reached Howrah station and doctors suspect that he could’ve been drugged during his train journey to Howrah.
The patient has not yet said why he wanted to commit suicide but is remorseful for his actions.
