Mayawati and Akhilesh form coalition to defeat BJP, leave Amethi and Rae Bareli for Congress
GUWAHATI: In the latest political development the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) have formed an alliance in Uttar Pradesh prior to the Lok Sabha polls.
Of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, BSP will contest in 38 seats and alliance partner SP in 38. The alliance will not contest in Congress strongholds of Amethi and Rae Bareli. Remaining two seats are kept reserve.
Announcing the alliance BSP chief Mayawati said, “Our alliance has been successful to defeat BJP in the Uttar Pradesh bye-polls and we will stop them from forming a government in the Centre. The public of Uttar Pradesh is unhappy with the dictatorial role and the communal agenda of the BJP. The Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party are going to give sleepless nights to Guru-Chela (Modi-Amit Shah) with this understanding in Uttar Pradesh.”
“I want to thank Mayawati ji for accepting this coalition. Our coalition is to clear Uttar Pradesh of BJP. Under the BJP rule it is just caste politics and so this alliance will fight against such politics and also the communal hatred spread by the BJP. SP and BSP had to come together to challenge the arrogance of BJP,” said Akhilesh Yadav.
The BSP had in 1993 allied with the SP to fight the assembly elections together.
