Amidst the coronavirus pandemic and months-long lockdowns, Guwahati is undergoing major infrastructure development. Construction work on two flyovers and nine-foot over-bridges are ongoing on a war footing.

Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Education, Finance, and PWD, Himanta Biswa Sarma, while inaugurating the Guwahati Ropeway on August 24, said that Guwahati will be gifted with functional infrastructures in the coming months. “The Ganeshguri Flyover will be inaugurated on ‘sasthi’ of Durga Puja (22nd October) and the Supermarket flyover before Bohag Bihu 2021, tentatively. We aim to inaugurate all the nine-foot over bridges together on 1st February,” he added.

Although the initial lockdown slowed down the construction processes for the flyovers, currently the Public Works Department (PWD), Dispur Territorial Road Division has not just continued with the construction of the flyovers, but two new foot over-bridges are also underway.
