Actor Adil Hussain prepares Assamese dishes for Delhi foodies
GUWAHATI: Internationally acclaimed actor from Assam, Adil Hussain, donned the role of a chef at a Sikkimese restaurant in Delhi on September 15, Saturday.
Adil prepared a total of three vegetarian dishes and three non-vegetarian dishes for his esteemed guests as he took over the restaurant’s kitchen for the day.
The diverse dishes on the menu ranged from places across the country, not forgetting his home state Assam. Adil prepared khar with rohu fish, a traditional preparation with alkaline water made from a special kind of banana peel which is sun-dried and soaked in water, straight from the culinary heritage of his native state, Assam. He also prepared a bharta of pumpkin leaves delicately blended with fermented bamboo shoot, rightfully depicting the ethnicity of the northeast.
When asked, Adil reminisced that he developed a penchant for cooking spending time in his mother’s kitchen at his ancestral home in Goalpara during his childhood. In 1998, a small food joint in Humpi serving delicious food gave him a dream to start a restaurant of his own that will serve food cooked with love. Twenty years later, he finally lived that dream for a day.
Earlier, on Thursday, Adil had hosted a sneak preview showcasing his select dishes for gourmets and media friends.
