Book on child protection launched in Guwahati
GUWAHATI: A book on ‘Role of Duty Bearers in Child Protection’ written by IGP (CID) Surendra Kumar, was launched by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on July 20.
Speaking during the occasion, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that every society’s first priority should be to ensure children's rights.
“Various stakeholders working in the field of child protection must take up their responsibility and should work in tandem towards the cause of child protection,” said Sonowal.
Addressing the gathering during the event, the author said that he decided to write the handbook to improve the level of awareness among field officers on rights of children.
“I noticed that the level of awareness among police officers on child protection was very low and this makes it very difficult to serve the cause of children,” said Kumar.
He further added that the book also mentions the provisions of 18 laws which currently deal with protection of children.
“The book also lists department wise roles of officers in the field to ensure child rights,” added the author.
Kumar’s book will also be circulated nationally to help child protection officers in other states.
