211 ticketless passengers detected by NF Railway in 3 days
GUWAHATI: As many as 211 ticketless passengers have been apprehended and penalised by the North East Frontier Railway during a special drive on ticket checking.
The drive was conducted jointly with Commercial and Security department at various locations over Lumding division from 29th May to 31st May 2018.
A hefty sum of Rs. 70,000 has been collected by the N.F. Railway Vigilance Department during this drive.
The checking which is called a “Fortress” check involved a sort of 'cordoning off' of a train or a station by groups of personnel who are trained to ensure that defaulters do not get a chance to slip away.
A similar drive was also conducted at New Haflong Station by the Kanchanjungha Express wherein six passengers were found traveling without Ticket, an amount of Rs. 2280 has been realised as fare and penalty.
Further, all the catering units of Silchar, Badarpur, and Lumding were also brought under check and fine amounting to Rs. 11,000 was imposed on the contractor for overcharging packaged drinking water.
Interestingly during the drive, the sale of Platform ticket considerably increased in Silchar and Badarpur area as much as 292 percent.
