250 tourists stranded in Sikkim after cloudburst
GUWAHATI: As many as 250 tourists have been stranded at Zima of North Sikkim after a cloudburst triggered torrential rain in several areas of the district.
Following this, a flood alert has been issued in several areas in North Sikkim as the Teesta River was flowing over the danger mark after the cloudburst.
As per reports, tourists were evacuated from three places by Lachen police and were taken to Lachen. Further, the road between Chungthang-Lachen-Thangu was also blocked at several places due to rains.
Chief Minister PS Golay directed the authorities to clear the road as soon as possible for the passage of the vehicles carrying tourists to their respective destinations.
Golay also directed the authorities to extend all help to the tourists and the general public who are suffering because of the calamity.
Additionally, residents of Singtam and Rangpo have been alerted about the sudden spate in Teesta River through its downstream which flows downwards through East Sikkim.
