33 Air Travellers Among New COVID-19 Positive Cases in Assam
GUWAHATI: With the resumption of flight services, Assam witnessed a surge in COVID-19 positive cases on June 1.
Reportedly on June 1, 33 Coronavirus positive patients were identified at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) along with a few others from several districts in Assam.
In a tweet at 9 pm on June 1, Assam Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "30 air travellers arrived from Kuwait. While 12 patients were from Cachar, 10 from Kamrup, 9 from Karimganj, 7 from Kokrajhar, 2 from Hailakandi, 1 each from Barpeta, Nagaon and Jorhat respectively bringing the State tally to 1463."

However at 9:55 PM on June 1, the numbers changed and the tally when upto 1485 as again 22 new cases were reported in which "3 were air travellers and 10 Kamrup Rural, 6 Morigaon, 2 Goalpara, 1 to be ascertained."
Notably on May 29, an International flight of Jazeera Airways landed in Guwahati with 155 passengers from Kuwait. Out of the total 155 passengers, 98 were quarantined at the Gauhati University (GU) RCC 4 Boys Hostel.
Earlier, the state government had converted six hostels of the Gauhati University into quarantine centers.
