60,000 foreign cigarettes seized from Guwahati Railway Station
GUWAHATI: 300 packets of foreign cigarettes were seized by Railway Police Force at Guwahati Railway Station on 27th October.
The packets containing a total of 60,000 cigarette sticks were found on checking the Dibrugarh – New Delhi AC Special Rajdhani Express, number 02423 DN, at the Guwahati station.
Two persons were carrying the packets of foreign origin cigarettes on their luggage. The accused persons along with cigarette bundles were h
anded over to the Customs Department, Guwahati for further necessary action.
The value of the recovered cigarettes is approximated at Rs. 5 lakh.
In another incident, the CPDS team of the RPF under the Alipurduar division of NF Railway conducted a surprise check at New Coochbehar station on 27th October and found 186 un-booked tobacco bundles were lying at PF 6 & 7 sheds of New Coochbehar station. On inquiry, it was found that the tobacco was not booked by the parcel office.
Total tobacco weighed approx 9412 kg, and was to be booked from New Coochbehar to Rangiya. The same was seized and handed over to CS/ New Coochbehar for taking necessary action. A fine of Rs. 6,450 was levied on the booking party.
