GUWAHATI: Cabinet Minister and President of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Atul Bora, threatened to break their alliance with the BJP if the Citizenship Amendment Bill is passed.

The minister while speaking to G Plus said that he met the Chairman of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) who assured that the result and outcome of the whole initiative will be in favor of the people of Assam.

Thousands of AGP supporters on Tuesday took part in a protest rally from Latasil Field to Chandmari protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. "The bill is a threat to the identity of Assamese identity. We as a people of this land will never support this," said several supporters.

Atul Bora further said that their fight for the protection of the identity of the Assamese people is independent of their political alliance with the BJP Govt, which is why the party members are ready to step down and break their alliance with the state government if needs to be.
