Amidst CAA Protests, ULFA-I Calls for Boycott of Republic Day Celebrations
GUWAHATI: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) on Thursday, January 23 has called to boycott the 71st Republic Day on January 26.
In a statement issued by Abhijeet Asom, chairman of the banned group, asked the people to register their protest against the ‘colonial rule in Assam’ and to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). However, the emergency services would remain exempted from the boycott, reads the statement.
It is to be mentioned that this comes at a time when on January 23 around 644 crades from several extremist groups including 50 cadres of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) laid down their arms at a function at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital Auditorium in Guwahati.
