GUWAHATI: The All Assam Tai Ahom Student Union (AATASU) Adviser, Ashwini Chetia on March 24 tendered his resignation after he met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma at the official residence of the CM.

Chetia was a senior leader of the anti CAB protest movement and was often seen with KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi. He is most likely joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam. He was a member of the 70 Jatiya Sangthan bloc led by Akhil Gogoi during the anti CAB protest.

Chetia has vowed to work for the BJP and use his network amongst the Ahom community for the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
