APSC Cash for Job Scam: Three more including BJP member arrested
GUWAHATI: Assam Police arrested three persons including a senior police official, a Guwahati-based realtor and a senior BJP leader in connection with the ongoing Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam on the night of July 22.
While Kabita Das, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of 19th IRBn was picked up from Duliajan, realtor Surajit Choudhury was picked up from Guwahati and Vice-President of ruling BJP’s Darrang unit, Sailen Sharma Baruah, was picked up from Sipajhar last night by Dibrugarh district police.
Das was today brought in to the Kahilipara-based Assam Police Special Branch where she was grilled by Dibrugarh police.
It is to be mentioned that, Das had appeared for handwriting test on June 25 and was evading arrests since then.
Police picked her up last night when she was out in the market with her husband.
"We believe that she was trying to get out of the country till the heat of the case dies down," a source said.
Both Choudhury (who is also who is also the husband of Pallavi Sarma, BJP MP’s daughter) and Baruah have been accused of causing obstruction in the investigation.
Further, they were sent for medical tests by the Panbazar-based special investigation team.
Allegations were that the duo tried to 'manage' the judge and media people in connection with the case.
With last night's arrests, the number of arrested government officials has reached 56, while 10 others were arrested including APSC Chairman Rakesh Paul in the scam.
The special court overseeing the case has extended two more months for investigation after the Dibrugarh police had requested for 3 month's extension.
