Assam Class 12 Syllabus Reduced by 30 Percent, Nehru, Gujarat Riot, Ayodhya Dispute Dropped
GUWAHATI: Lessons on former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s term, the Mandal Commission report, and the 2002 Gujarat riots have been dropped from the Class 12 syllabus of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
The decision was taken as part of the 30 percent reduction in syllabus that was undertaken due to the loss in academic time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The revised syllabus has been uploaded on the official website of AHSEC.
ajor topics from the 'Politics in India since Independence' part have been dropped including topics like First Three General Elections, Nehru’s Approach to Nation-Building, Famine and Suspension of Five Year Plans, Nehru’s Foreign Policy, Political Succession after Nehru, Politics of ‘Garibi Hatao’, Navnirman Movement in Gujarat, Punjab Crisis and the anti-Sikh Riots of 1984, Implementation of Mandal Commission Report, UF and NDA governments, Elections 2004 and UPA Government, Ayodhya Dispute and Gujarat Riots.
As for the History syllabus, chapters like 'Kinship, Caste and Class', 'Kings and Chronicles' were amongst the chapters to be reduced.
