Assam: All Academic COVID-19 Restrictions to be Removed from January 2021
GUWAHATI: All academic restrictions owing to COVID-19 protocols are set to be removed from January 1, 2021 in Assam. This was announced by Assam Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
That would mean the resumption of schools and colleges in a similar fashion as during pre-COVID times.
Addressing the media, the minister stated that regular classes will begin next year. "There will be social distancing and masks but o
ther restrictions will be removed," Sarma told reporters.
Currently, the staggered classes initiated by the Assam government will be removed. "The cases of COVID-19 has lessened. If you see the Kamrup (Metro) cases, only 20-25 cases are being registered per day. As such, we have decided to resume normal classes unless a second hit arrives," added Sarma.
A proper Standard operating procedure (SOP) regarding the re-opening will be published by the Assam education department on the matter later.
