GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the first CNG filling station in Chowkidingee, Dibrugarh on Saturday, August 17.

The station has been installed by the Assam Gas Company.

Following the inauguration, Sonowal wrote on Twitter, "Assam's first CNG station starts a new era of cost effective and environment friendly fuel which will help reduce air pollution. The station is just the beginning of clean and affordable transportation systems in the region."

With this, Assam has become the second state in the Northeast after Tripura to get a CNG filling station.

According to reports, after the station in Dibrugarh, the Assam Gas Company plans to open subsequent stations in Tinsukia, Sivsagar, Jorhat, Golaghat and Guwahati.

The CNG price is comparatively lesser than petrol and diesel. Currently, CNG price in Delhi stands at Rs. 46.60.

It is to be mentioned that economical cars generally promise to deliver an impressive mileage of 26.6 km/kg in CNG mode.
