Assam: Elephant electrocuted in Udalguri
GUWAHATI: An elephant was killed after getting electrocuted in Udalguri and was found by locals of 5 No Bhutiachang area on the morning of June 3.
A case was also registered under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. As per reports, the elephant was killed after coming in contact with an unauthorized electric wire which was put up by the villagers to keep wild elephants away.
A portion of the trunk of the tusker was also allegedly found missing.
As per reports by the state forest department, in 2017, a total of 70 elephants had died due to various reasons including electrocution, poisoning and train accidents. Further, a total of 48 people were trampled to death by elephants till November 2017.
