Assam govt to impose uniform fee across colleges from 2019
GUWAHATI: The Assam higher education directorate has decided to enforce a uniform fee structure for the undergraduate (UG) course offered by provincialized colleges in the state.
According to a Times of India report, 300 provincialized colleges in Assam will have uniform fees for the upcoming academic session for the first time.
"We were receiving complaints that some colleges are charging a lot. Last year, we discussed how the fee structure can be uniform for the deg
ree and higher courses, "said Anjali Saikia Baruah, director of higher education to TOI.
It is to be mentioned that, in Kamrup (M) the maximum annual fees a college can charge for science (major) is Rs 6,820 and for science (general) is Rs 6,040. For arts, colleges in the district can charge up to Rs 5,840 annually and Rs 5,620 for commerce.
In other urban areas of the state, colleges can charge up to Rs 6,520 for science (major), Rs 6,040 for science (general), Rs 5,540 for arts and Rs 5,320 for commerce.
However, colleges in the state's rural areas can charge Rs 5,920 for science (major), Rs 5,140 for science (general), Rs 4,940 for arts and Rs 4,720 for commerce.
