Assam: Massive Fire in Jorhat Kills Two, Three Severely Injured

GUWAHATI: Two persons were killed and three seriously injured when a major fire broke out at AT Road near Tocklai bridge area of Jorhat on Sunday night.

The fire occurred at an automobile repair shop at around 11 PM. 

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati informed that 13 fire tenders from Jorhat and neighbouring Sivasagar and Golaghat districts were pressed into service to douse the inferno.

"The fire was doused in the early hours today at around 4 AM by officials of the fire department," informed sources. 

The deceased have been identified as Satyanarayana Agarwal (75) and Gomti Devi (72). The injured persons are being treated. 

Officials involved in the fire control operations said that at least six other persons have suffered minor injuries due to the fire and follow-up rescue exercise.
