GUWAHATI: It is clear that the Assam Police has upped its game not just on social media, but has also made it clear that they mean business when it comes to catching criminals and solving cases.

An interesting incident was reported earlier today which originated from Shillong. Two (2) people had hired a taxi from Shillong and were headed towards Darrang, Mangaldoi.

The passengers who booked the vehicle were Rupak Deka (40) and Jakir Hussan (28). The duo booked a Maruti Ertiga bearing Regn. No ML-O5/Q-8634.

The story takes an interesting twist as Rupak and Jakir both, assaulted the driver of the vehicle (Bijay Jamatia of Tripura), as they reached Baihata, threw Bijay from the vehicle and escaped with the car!

The driver then quickly contacted the owner of the vehicle, Mr. Bhajanlal Bajoria who is a resident of Meghalaya, who used Social Media to reach out to the Assam Police.

With one quick tweet, Assam Police got into action.

The Social Media team then coordinated with the OC of Baihata Police Station to recover the car in a Hollywood style chase, in 57 mins! The tweet that came in at 12:08 am was solved at 1:05 pm.

The habitual dacoits were apprehended at Borgaon and other objectionable articles were also recovered.

The culprits are currently being interrogated.

This intra-department coordination however sets a new benchmark for the Assam Police and the Social Media is all praises for the Assam Police!
