Authorities State Ill-Timed Break As Reason For Hima Das’s Setback In World Championships
GUWAHATI: Authorities from the Athletics Federation of India have stated that Hima Das’s ill-timed 45-day break to appear for her class XII examinations in February-March earlier this year is causing her to struggle to bounce back in time to meet the qualification standards for the World Championships in Doha.
Das’s season best in the 400 metres is 52.09 seconds which she achieved at a competition in Czech Republic, while the World Championship qualifying standard is set at 51.80 seconds.
Authorities have stated that the break broke the Dhing express’s training cycle but since she was adamant about giving her exams, there was no other option but to take the break.
However, Das has been making a strong comeback this season. She won 5 gold medals at various tournaments in under a month and is now scheduled to participate in three more events through mid-August and September to be able to qualify for the World Championships.
