Bodoland University Charges High Readmission Fee Despite Govt Order to the Contrary

G Plus News | November 24, 2020 15:10 hrs

Students of Bodoland University in Kokrajhar have protested against the varsity administration's admission notice.

Students are furious about the high fee rates mentioned by the university for readmission into Degree 3rd and 5th semesters even as the Assam government has ordered for free admission in all government institutions from class XI to the Post Graduate level for the academic year 2020-21.

Speaking to G Plus, Deep Mushahary,
President of the students' body of Bodoland University said, "While the government has barred government educational institutions from taking admission fee, our university is not just asking for payment but the fees are also exhorbitant. Most of the students' families have suffered during the lockdown. It's not possible to pay such huge amounts."

Reportedly, the students' body has met the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh who has promised to look into the matter.

"We were assured that no fee will be collected if other universities have also done the same. The admissions were scheduled to start from today, 23rd November, but has been postponed by a day," added Mushahary.

While the Post Graduate 3rd and 5th-semester admissions will start from 24th November, no fee will be taken until further notice.

Earlier, in June, Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that admission to universities, colleges and higher secondary schools in Assam will be free during the current academic year to ensure there is no additional burden on parents already affected by the lockdown.

Reportedly, Gauhati University will be starting its semester admission process by the 15th of December, and it will be free as per government orders.
