CM directs DGP to conduct inquiry to find out Rebati Phukan
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed DGP Mukesh Sahay to immediately conduct an inquiry to find out prominent businessmen and former footballer Rebati Phukan, who went missing on last Sunday.
Chief Minister Sonowal took strong note of the incident and asked the DGP to look into all facts of the matter and to make all out efforts to trace the whereabouts of Phukan.
A missing report was been filed on Tuesday at Geetanagar Police Station by his family members.
"Family members said that he left his flat at Ambikagirinagar for some work on April 22 morning. He hasn't returned home yet. We are investigating into it," a source in Geetanagar police station said.
Following Phukan's missing, ULFA-I commander-in-chief, Paresh Baruah, who considers Phukan as 'elder brother figure' has asked Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to take appropriate actions to recover him (Phukan).
Phukan, a former national level football coach, comes from the same village Jeraichakali in Dibrugarh district of Upper Assam. He was a member of the 12-member People's Consultative Group (PCG), the organisation set up by the ULFA to negotiate with the government of India and was said to be "the one calling the real shots" for the group right until it got dissolved on February 2011.
