CM lays foundation stone of doubling of railway line in Assam
Beginning a new era in railways in the northeast, Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday jointly laid the foundation stone of the project for doubling the railway line from Hojai to Lumding.
“Lack of double lines has been a critical bottleneck in Assam for punctual movement of trains and the project of doubling of railway line from Hojai to Lumding (44.92 km) will create additional carrying capacity for the Railways and improve punctuality of trains,” said Gohain while addressing the function at Hojai on Monday.
People of Assam have been expecting doubling of railway line for the last 70 years, however, within two years in office, the BJP led government has taken up the plan and implemented it ushering in an era of fast development in the state, he said.
Stating that Assam has been lacking in development and many of the state’s demands remained unfulfilled, he thanked the Prime Minister and Railway Minister for paying special attention to the region and hoped that Railways will act as the growth engine for the area.
The Chief Minister also laid emphasis on maintenance of cleanliness in railway stations and all residential areas and called upon the citizens to actively participate in Swachh Bharat Mission.
