GUWAHATI: With the outbreak of coronavirus and restriction of foreigners visiting the country, the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is scheduled to start from March 29 is likely to be postponed.

According to reports, no foreign player will be available for this year's IPL till 15 April due to visa restrictions imposed by the government to contain the deadly novel coronavirus outbreak, a top Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source told PTI on Thursday, casting fresh doubts on the fate of the event.

It is to be mentioned that Guwahati was suppose to host two IPL matches-Rajasthan Royals will play against Delhi Capital on April 5th, 2020 and then against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 9, 2020.

"The foreign players who play in the IPL come under the Business Visa category. As per the government's directive, they can't come till 15 April," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The fate of the IPL itself will be decided on 14 March at the event's Governing Council meeting in Mumbai.

Currently India has reported 60 positive cases in the outbreak of the disease which has led to over 4,000 deaths globally.
