Covid-19 Positive Patient was in Guwahati on 11th March
GUWAHATI: A 52 year old man has been detected as the first positive case of coronavirus in Assam.
The man hails from Badarpur, Karimganj and is undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College.
Dr. Babul Kumar Bezbaruah, Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, speaking to media said, "The person was admitted on 29th March and was suffering from severe fever and cough. As per the patient's son, he had a travel history of going to Delhi."
The patient went to Delhi via Guwahati on the 5th March last. He stayed at a hotel and visited the Jama Majid. He also came into contact with people near Nizammudin Dargah. The patient returned to Guwahati on the 10th March and stayed at the Athgoan area on 11th March. He left by the Rajdhani Express to reach Badarpur on 13th March, as per Dr. Bezbaruah.
Reportedly the person is a diabetic and also a cancer patient.
Dr. Bezbaruah further said that the reports of the patient had been sent to National Institute of Biologicals (NIB) Pune for further analysis which later confirmed that the patient was coronavirus positive.
The patient is currently stable.
