COVID-19 Update: India Climbs to 6th on List of Countries Worst Affected
GUWAHATI: The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India rose to 2,36,657 with 9,887 new cases and 294 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, which has brought India up to the 6th spot in the list of countries worst affected by the virus.
The country now has 1,15,942 active cases as per the latest data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
In Assam, with a spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases, the total tally has gone up to 2,243
as per State Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s latest Twitter update. The state now has 1,727 active cases with 128 cases recorded in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra with 80,229 cases is the worst-affected state by the disease, followed by Gujarat with 19,094 cases. The tally of COVID-19 positive cases in the national capital stands at 26,334 with 708 deaths recorded in New Delhi so far. In the south, Tamil Nadu has reported 28,694 cases with 232 deaths so far.
