GUWAHATI: Members of the Assam Congress on July 15 demanded that the floods in Assam should be declared a “national problem”.

They also staged a protest in the premises of the Parliament accusing the Centre of step-motherly treatment towards Assam for not announcing any special package or releasing funds for flood relief.

Assam Congress Committee President Ripun Bora has given a Zero Hour Notice in the Rajya Sabha over the prevalent flood situation in the state. Incessant rainfall in the state over the past few days have led to floods in large parts of Assam.

More than 26 lakh people have been displaced from their homes and flash floods have killed at least 9 in the past 72 hours.

The MPs blamed the state government for failing to prevent the devastation created by floods.

Holding placards Bora, MPs Pradyut Bordoloi, Abdul Khaleque, Ranee Narah and Sanjay Singh demanded the “BJP-led Assam Government to combat with flood on war footing manner”.
