Durga Puja 2020: Mandatory Screening of Priests and Committee Members Conducted Across Assam
GUWAHATI: The priests, committee members, and other volunteers who will be participating in the Durga Puja rituals and related activities are being tested for COVID-19 symptoms in Assam.
The Assam government had mandated the screening of all people associated directly with the pujas.
Earlier, the Assam government had issued Durga Puja guidelines to be followed by all citizens of the state. It stated that all the volunteers, priests, and Puja organizers must
get mandatorily tested for COVID-19 before Puja starts (on Panchami day) and after immersion (Ekadasi day).
As per a report on Times of India, 16,000 tests were carried out for priests and volunteers of about 3,570 pandals in Assam on 21st October. 44 were tested positive in 31 districts.
