Fake News Circulates Online Following Arun Jaitley’s Demise; No Govt Holiday Declared

GUWAHATI: A news has been circulating on popular social media app WhatsApp and Facebook which states that the government has declared a holiday on Monday, August 26 following the demise of former finance minister Arun Jaitley. 

The message which was being circulated online read, “The Govt. of India announces all offices, schools, and other institutions shall remain closed on 26/08/19, as mark of respect for our dear departed Shri. Arun Jaitley (Hon. Member of Parliament & former Finance Minister).”

However, it has been confirmed that this news is not true. In Guwahati, August 26 is a full working day and schools, offices, banks and other institutions are all open and operational.
