FM Announces Rs 70,000 Cr for Housing Schemes, Jobs for Tribals
GUWAHATI: As part of the second tranche of announcement under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat package, union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced one package each for the housing sector as well as for employment generation in the tribal belts.
As such the government will be extending the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) for middle income group (annual income Rs 6-18 lakhs) which was operationalised from May 2017 and was extended up to 31st March 2020 thereby already benefitting 3.3 lakh middle income families so far will now be extended to 31st March 2021. 2.5 lakh more middle income families will benefit during 2020-21 and the FM said this will lead to investment of Rs. 70,000 crores in the housing sector which will also create jobs and stimulate demand for steel, cement, transport and other construction materials.
To create job opportunities for tribals/adivasis, plans worth Rs 6000 crores are to be approved by the government shortly under Compensatory Afforestation Management & Planning Authority (CAMPA) Funds. This will create job opportunities in urban, semi-urban and rural areas, mostly among the adivasis.
