Forest Man of India, Padma Shri Jadav Payeng has become victim to a cyber crime racket. A website, allegedly run using Jadav's name, has managed to con travellers and researchers from across the globe into paying over Rs 1 lakh each for visiting the forest he has been working in.

Payeng transferred a sandbar of the Brahmaputra, covering Rs 1360 acres, into a dense forest by planting trees and tending to them for years.

“I don't have any website. I came to know that such a website existed on my recent visit to Taiwan, when delegates told me that a website was charging over Rs 1 lakh from tourists who wished to visit my forest,” said Jadav Payeng.

He further said that he's informed police t do the needful and punish the culprits who have defamed his efforts of making this world a greener place.

Assam police on Sunday, March 11, arrested one Anil Kumar Gade on charges of running the fake website.
