Former DGP Kuladhar Saikia Elected as Sahitya Sabha President
GUWAHATI: Former Assam Director General of Police, Kuladhar Saikia won the Asam Sahitya Sabha election for the post of President.
Saikia who is also a Sahitya Akademi award winner defeated Padma Shri Suryakanta Hazarika with a margin of 194 votes. Saikia got 269 votes while Hazarika got 74 votes.
The results of the polls of the literary body were declared on January 2.
Mrinalini Devi defeated Basanta Kumar Sarma with a margin of 156 votes for the post of Vice-President. Jadav Sarma defeated Debajit Bora with a margin of 68 votes for the post of general secretary of the body.
It is to be mentioned that the election was conducted under the supervision of a 3-member committee comprising of Gauhati High Court judge Biplab Kumar Sarma and senior advocates Bijan Kumar Mahajan and SP Roy.
