Government Exempts Print Media from Lockdown
Guwahati: The Assam Government has exempted newspapers from the 21-day lockdown.
On the new list of exempted goods issued by the government on March 24, newspaper hawkers have been exempted only to distribute papers among the masses.
Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, in a press conference on March 25, informed that the Deputy Commissioner had met with the hawkers' association and asked them to distribute the daily newspapers. However, members of the association informed that many people have declined to take regular delivery of newspapers fearing it as a medium to spread coronavirus.
A further meeting is to be conducted on March 25.
As per information, the government has asked print media to continue publication as it is a major medium of information in these times of crisis, and many people are completely dependent on them for information.
It has been learnt that newspaper print and distribution are to be regulated from March 26.
Earlier, health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that newspapers do not spread the COVID-19.
