Guwahati Book Fair Sees Increased Footfall, Sales Cross 5 Crore
GUWAHATI: This year, the 33rd Guwahati Book Fair has seen huge success, with sales crossing the numbers of previous years. The book fair which started on December 30, has witnessed a sale of almost 5 crores in 8 days.
Pramod Kalita, Secretary General of the Publication Board while speaking to G Plus said, “The sales have been much more than that of the previous years. This comes as a surprise to us because we thought that people would come in lesser numbers due t
o the pandemic. On an average we have about 40,000-60,000 visitors per day. The sales as of Thursday have crossed 5 crores.”
“We have released 200+ new books this book fair. Rupam Dutta’s book, Life of a Driver – Cabin’or Ipare has seen the highest sale. Two other books with decent sales are Hiren Bhattacharya’s Total Collection of Poems and the translation of Narendra Modi’s ‘Letter to Mother’ called ‘Aai Loi Sithi’ by Utpal Dutta,” he further added.
Kalita said that they hope the sales will touch 7 crores by the last day. The 33rd book fair will be open till the 10th of January.
