Guwahati: Girl filmed on mobile without permission inside running bus; police nabs miscreant
Amidst rising incidents of eve teasing and cases of crime against women, a recent incident of unsolicited filming of a young professional by a miscreant inside a running city bus has raised concerns if the city is inching towards being 'unsafe for women' of late.
The 24-year-old victim, Reema Nag, a resident of Guwahati, works with a city-based private company at Christian Basti and commutes home by city bus daily. The bus was at its usual crowded when she boarded last Tuesd
ay from Christian Basti at around 6:30 PM. Nag, however, managed a front seat when the bus reached A.T. Road, a momentary bliss that was soon marred when she noticed that a person was standing in the bus holding a mobile, with the camera pointed towards her since a long time.
Reema also took to Facebook to share the entire incident:
"I, initially, ignored shifting my gaze outside the window in an attempt to avoid paying attention to the concerned person. But, later it felt very creepy when I noticed that he continued holding the phone pointing the camera towards her," Nag alleged.
"It could be clearly understood that the person was taking my photographs or filming me. But his phone had a flip cover, which is why nobody in the bus could see what was appearing on his mobile screen," Reema told G Plus.
Reema further added that the cloud over her suspicion cleared when she was about to get down the bus and saw the person putting the phone inside his pocket in a hurry.
She, with the help of the bus driver, conductor, and fellow passengers managed to get hold of the miscreant and his phone. When unlocked, the phone's gallery affirmed her suspicion as there were her pictures and video footages in it.
Reema quickly informed her family members about the incident. With the help of the family members and the bus conductor, Reema managed to take the miscreant to the Jalukbari Police Station.
A case for stalking through electronic devices, under IPC Section 354d has been registered against the miscreant who was later identified as S. K Mohidul, at the Jalukbari Police Station.
