Guwahati: GMC Workers to go Indefinite Strike from January 27

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Karmi Sangha (GMKS) and other affiliated unions associated with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation have called for an indefinite strike starting from January 27, 2020. This was told to G Plus by a leader of the GMKS. 

"Till our demands are not met, we will go on an indefinite strike from January 27," he informed G Plus.

The other unions who have joined the strike include Water Supply Workers Union, Harijan Maj
door Union, All Assam Harijan Majdoor Union, and Technical Officers Union.


Earlier, the unions held a two-day demonstration in front of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) office in Panbazar on January 20 - 21. 

G Plus spoke to Pulak Mahanta, Joint Commissioner of GMC who stated that the matter has been forwarded to the government. "Since the demands they have asserted includes a policy decision, we have forwarded the matter to the government," added Mahanta.
