GUWAHATI: Guwahati Development Department minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya inaugurated a 5 TPD Biomethanation cum Electric Energy Plant for segregated Organic MSW at Chatribari Beelpar area of Guwahati on 13th August.

It is a high rate bio methanation reactor that converts organic waste into energy in the form of biogas which is then used to generate clean electricity.

The energy generated from plant will be used for lighting approximately 1000
street lights in the city.

Madhurjya Das of GPS Renewables Pvt. Ltd., the company implementing the plant said, “This is a bio methanation or biogas plant, an advanced version of the previous one. While the earlier one used just cow dung, this can convert organic waste into biogas. This plant can convert 5,000 kgs of biowaste into 800 units of power and 450 kgs of manure. The electricity generated will be used to light the streetlights of the area.”
