He also announced that 8000 kilometers of rural roads will be metalled throughout Assam. These roads come under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The deadline to complete this project is one year. Rural roads are important keeping in mind the the general elections in 2019.

Starting 1st September 2018, the older 19,000 kilometres of rural roads will be repaired and reconstructed depending on the condition and state of these roads.
Assam has 1400 wooden bridges which needs to be replaced with concrete ones as a long-term solution. The minister stated that around 700 rural wooden bridges would be replaced with concrete ones.
