Guwahati Woman Suffers BPPV At Maligaon Foot Over-Bridge As Lift Remains Dysfunctional

GUWAHATI: The Maligaon footbridge near Jalukbari Police Station in Guwahati is one of the major foot over bridges in the city installed with lifts. However, the lifts on the footbridge have been dysfunctional ever since the lockdown.

Residents from the nearby area expressed that due to the functioning of the lifts, commuting through the foot over the bridge was easy and convenient until it was shut down.

Today, a woman taking the footbridge to cross over to
the other side of the road suddenly felt dizzy which seemed to be a Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and went off- balance after she climbed up the three storey footbridge. Another lady came to the woman's rescue and helped her climb down the stairs of the foot bridge as the lifts weren't in a working condition.

"Many old men and women face difficulties crossing the busiest road in the city as the lifts are yet to be revived," said Debojit Sharma, a resident of Maligaon adding.

"We want the lift on the footbridge to be revived asap," he emphasized.

While another resident from the area told G Plus, "The foot bridge was clean before the COVID-19 lockdown. But now no one comes to clean the foot bridge now, which is filled with tobacco spits and litters everywhere." She also said that the lifts were in functional state before the lockdown as she frequently used the Maligaon foot bridge while taking her kid to school.

Meanwhile, the government has just finished the construction of a foot over-bridge near Kamakhya Temple road which is expected to reduce traffic jam in the area.
