India: Boris Johnson Invited as Chief Guest for Republic Day 2021
India has invited the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, as chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations in 2021.
A positive response to this is still awaited from London, according to The Hindu who quoted discreet sources.
The invitation was extended on November 27 last during a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Boris Johnson, a diplomatic source stated on December 2 to The Hi
However, there was no confirmation from the British High Commission. The officials added to that saying, "Mr Johnson is keen on visiting India".
It has been learned that prior to this invitation, discussions were underway for a visit by Johnson for the "Raisina Dialogue". Officials also stated that with a focus on a range of issues, the two countries' goal would be working out a strategic partnership.
