ISIS not recruiting youths from Assam: Guwahati Police commissioner
GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police commissioner, Deepak Kumar refuted media reports claiming Assam youths being forcibly recruited by ISIS.
Kumar said, “These reports are false and do not have an iota of truth.”
It should be noted that on Tuesday, June 25, a section of media reported that a Garigaon, Guwahati-based youth named, Suraj Jamal, was forcibly inducted into ISIS.
This was confessed by Jamal himself in a panicky phone call from Jammu & Kashmir to his family.
Kumar further added, “We are in touch with Jammu & Kashmir police and we will rescue Jamal soon.”
Jamal’s family also claims that the Jalukabari police demanded money from them to which Kumar said, “Guilty police personnel will not be spared.”
On June 14, Suraj left for Delhi in search of a job along with one person identified as Papu hailing from Rangia.
However, on Tuesday Jamal called his family saying that 25 youths have been escorted from Assam by men in CRPF uniform and taken to some undisclosed location.
They were also made to travel through jungles.
